What causes a yeast infection

A Bodily Battle of Good vs. Bad

Did you know your body depends on bacteria to protect against an increased level of yeast within the body? In both men and women, natural combinations of yeast and bacteria are the regulating factors to a healthy digestion and urinary tract.

When an imbalance in natural yeasts of the human Candida (genus) occurs in the body, it can result in infection and disease. The most common diagnosis of an imbalance between good bacteria and yeast is a form of yeast infection in a woman’s vagina.

Research has proven that a yeast infection can be easily treated, but discovering the medical reason for a yeast infection can be difficult. Because an imbalance can happen in both men and women, not only may it be easier to discover a women’s imbalance and find a plan of treatment, in men it is harder to define, and the causes more complex.

Digestion occurs when natural flora breaks down food sources that are ingested during one’s life. Being one of the body’s most complex mixtures of hormonal, chemical, and microbial properties, the digestive tract can be affected negatively when an imbalance of any component is reached.

The cause of an imbalance can be from natural or manmade triggers that can progress into symptoms of illness that must be addressed. The Candida (genus) has more than one culprit. The family (genus) of Candida yeasts that can create health issues in the human body is large. Each one can result in an imbalance within the body that develops into a specific type of yeast infection.

Avoiding foods, medicines, and hormone treatments that can create an imbalance may decrease the chance of creating the infection through poor dietary and therapy treatments. An alternative treatment for yeast infection can be found through natural medicine.

Functional Medicine, and alternative form of health care, is discovering imbalances within each patient and managing dietary and pharmaceutical intake to achieve a proper balance. While some problems must be managed by a physician, some of the natural cures for yeast infections work well for people whose hormone and vitamin levels have been out of whack for an extended period of time.

The reason yeast infections may be more common now than in the past is that the way we treat the infection may give rise to other forms of the problem that are treatment resistant. Vaginal yeast infections can be treated at home with medications that help good bacteria destroy the buildup of yeast in the vaginal area.

When used to eliminate this health issue, the medications can become less effective over time. In the way antibiotics become less effective against strains of drug resistance disease, the current ingredients for the curing of yeast infections is becoming less effective against the disease.

Here’s where people need to be aware of the cause. Yeast infections can be the result of an ingestion of antibiotics, Estrogen hormone therapy, and the lack of proper dietary intake. These are things that can be managed by the patient to decrease the chance of yeast infection recurrence.

Awareness of what causes a yeast infection can trigger a change in behavior that removes the chance an imbalance in the Candida (genus) of natural yeast happens. Take control of the Candida (genus) and find a better balance between the good and the bad that lives within us all.
