Types of Yeast Infections
|
| There are many types
of yeast infections |
Candida albicans are the most common
type of Candida species. Candida cause fungal infections or mycosis such as Candidiasis or thrush. On the level of
health concerns, there are many more cases of superficial infections such as oral thrush or vaginitis. But there
are systemic threats as well. These could be very life threatening. Systemic yeast infections, known medically as
candidemia, usually only occur in people who have a damaged or weakened immune system. People with cancer,
transplants and AIDS are most in danger of contracting systemic yeast infections.
Candida appears to have no limits as far as geography or race. The entire world’s
people are in danger of superficial yeast infections on the skin or mucosal membranes. The discomfort is the same
no matter where it is located, warm climate, cold climate, and male or female, babies to the elderly, everyone is a
possibility.
Candida yeast is very opportunistic. A very simple change in a person’s life may open
the door to the pathogen growth. Once the door is open for the yeast, it builds on itself and soon overtakes the
host.
Candidiasis includes several versions of yeast infection. Technically they are known
as moniliasis, oidiomycosis and candidosis.
The large majority of candida infections only result in easily treatable maladies.
There conditions are generally very minimal and include skin redness, itching and discomfort. That is if they are
treated. Superficial conditions like these have to be treated or they could develop into very dangerous, even fatal
consequences.
People with healthy immune systems usually only suffer from superficial infections.
These yeast infections usually affect, the mouth (thrush) or further to the pharynx or oesophagus. In the lower
part of the body, they may suffer from yeast infections in the intestinal tract or the bladder or the more common
genitalia, both penile and vaginal.
Vaginal yeast infections or candidiasis is usually the cause of irritation in the
vagina or its technical term vaginitis. Males can contract yeast infections on or in the penis as well.
People with a compromised immune system can also suffer from oesophagus infection as
well but the difference here is the there is potential for that same infection to morph into a systemic infection;
a much more dangerous situation.
