Skin Yeast Infection
|
|
Skin yeast infections have several forms. |
On your skin at any given time, there are lots of organisms that are necessary for various skin functions. These
micro organisms include Candida. Candida is a fungus. The predominant form of candida is candida albicans. Skin
yeast infections are caused by rampant candida albicans reproduction on the skin.
Candida albicans seek warmth and moist breeding grounds. Such areas as armpits, groin, folds of skin, underneath
breasts are just such places. A skin yeast infection is very common in these areas. Discomfort in these areas could
be a sign of a skin yeast infection.
People who are immune-suppressed such as HIV or diabetes patients, are prone to skin yeast infections. Babies,
women who use birth control pills and overweight people are also likely to suffer from a skin yeast infection.
People who are in a damp environment and antibiotics use can also lead to skin yeast infections.
Some symptoms of skin yeast infections include:
Scaling of the skin
Itching
Swelling
Redness
Discharge
Blisters
These symptoms can be mildly annoying to very uncomfortable. Get a professional opinion at least for your first
time.
Skin yeast infections cause skin intertigo which usually affects folds of skin, underarms, and Athletes foot. Any
invasion of the skin, like in the case of ingrown toenails can be a starting point for a skin yeast infection.
People who work in wet areas frequently have problems with the skin between their fingers or toes. This is called
nappy rash.
A change in lifestyle may be just the thing to halt the skin yeast infection. Skin yeast infections can be treated
with medications. Creams, lotions, tablets or suppositories are usually the common treatments that doctors will
recommend.
Areas of the body that is prone to skin yeast infections should be washed well and properly dried. Remember candida
likes it warm and moist. So you have to pay special attention to the mucous membranes in your body. Cotton
underwear or loose clothing is recommended to let the areas breathe, eliminating the moisture easier.
