Getting Rid of Yeast Infections

Yeast infections can affect people of all ages and both genders. While vaginal yeast infections are most commonly heard of, there are other types of yeast infections that can occur. Dealing with a yeast infection can definitely be frustrating and uncomfortable; however, there are some treatments that can help today.

Yeast infections are caused by an overproduction of yeast, which naturally resides in the body anyway. Here’s a look at some causes, products for treatment, and ways that an infection can be avoided.

Possible Causes

There are actually a variety of causes that can lead to a yeast infection. The main cause is having an immune system that is lowered. Illness can cause this lowered immunity or just not getting enough sleep can cause the problem as well. At times using antibiotics or even birth control pills can cause a yeast infection to occur. Other causes can include diet changes, diabetes, bad nutrition, and even pregnancy.

Over the Counter Products

Thankfully today there are a variety of over the counter products that are available to treat yeast infections. Most of these products use anti fungal medications, such as miconazole or clotrimazole. There are creams, suppositories, and oral medications. Not only are there over the counter products that can provide some help, but you’ll also find that there are prescription medications that you can get from your doctor as well. Of course before you even consider using an over-the- counter medication, if you have never had one of these infections before, you should see your doctor to make sure that this is really your problem.

Avoiding Yeast Infections

While there are ways that yeast infections can be treated, you will find that avoiding yeast infections is a better option. There are a variety of things that you can do to prevent the problem in the first place. Wearing clothing that is made of cotton and loose fitting can be a great way to prevent a problem. Also, getting out of wet clothing or swim suits as soon as possible is important. To avoid vaginal infections, using deodorant sprays or scented soaps is not a great idea.

It’s definitely best to try to avoid getting a yeast infection in the first place. Of course if you do develop a problem, there are some great treatments. There are also homeopathic treatments and home remedies that you may want to consider. Sometimes going with an all natural treatment is a great option, so you won’t have to worry about bothersome side effects.
